Gabby Lamplugh Reflexology at Pink Lotus

Reflexology has been used for thousands of years as therapy for healing the mind and  body. It is often my go-to therapy when I treat a patient “in crisis”. It is incredibly calming and grounding and is particularly effective for patients who are in extreme distress. I would say that it is almost impossible to be stressed whilst having a treatment and a good night’s sleep after a treatment is guaranteed. Do not be misled by it’s gentle and calm approach, it can be extremely powerful and effective on a whole range of health issues.

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a complementary, holistic therapy which works on the premise that there are reflex points on the feet, hands and ears. These reflex points correspond to all of the different parts of the body, including organs and glands. By stimulating or soothing these reflexes, many health issues may benefit in a safe and natural way. Reflexology may work with the body to restore it’s own natural balance and is suitable for most people. However, you don’t need to be ill to benefit, you may just want to take the opportunity to relax, de-stress and take time for yourself. Having regular reflexology treatments may be ideal as a preventative measure.

Many health conditions may benefit from reflexology, listed are just a few;

  • Fertility Issues, Including assisted fertility treatment such as IUI, IVF & ICSI.
  • Stress related conditions, such as anxiety, hypertension, indigestion, constipation, IBS, headaches or migraines, palpitations, panic attacks, insomnia
  • Painful conditions such as arthritis, back ache and sciatica, SPD in pregnancy
  • Hormonal imbalances, such as PMS, irregular or painful menstruation cycles and menopause
  • Maternity Reflexology and Natural Induction of Labour
  • Baby Reflexology to help with colic, reflux, constipation, sleeping & teething

A typical Reflexology session

The first reflexology session takes around 1 hour and can be separated into two parts. The first part involves taking a full medical and lifestyle history from the client. This helps to identify any medical conditions which may be contraindicative to reflexology ie any conditions which would be made worse such as an infectious disease. It may also be necessary to obtain GP permission before treating a patient with certain conditions, for example cancer.

After this, the second part of the session is the investigatory session where the reflexologist will work over all the reflex points on both feet. This enables the reflexologist to identify any reflex points which are out of balance. A note is made of these and will help the reflexologist to create a treatment plan.

An out of balance reflex may be felt by the client in several ways. They may be uncomfortable when touched or numb. Reflexology is not intended to be painful and the reflexologist will adjust their pressure so that you are not uncomfortable. Some clients worry that their feet are too ticklish to be touched but it is very rare that this happens and most clients get used to the feeling and are able to relax and enjoy the treatment.
